Planning For Success

No One Plans For Failure...

No matter what our position in life happens to be, it is natural for us to want to be successful. No one plans to fail and yet, all too often, people do fail.

Consider this question - Are you as successful as you would like to be? If not, how can you become more successful?

Attitude is everything. Don't make the mistake of searching for reasons to fail. How often have you heard yourself, or someone else, say, "I'm not attractive enough, I'm not smart enough, I'm too fat or I'm too old and my opportunities have passed me by." The truth is, none of these is a valid reason to fail. Many incredibly successful people have been too unattractive, too overweight, not exceptionally bright and/or too old. Would there be a Kentucky Fried Chicken if Colonel Harlan Sanders had said, "I'm too old?" He was 65 years of age when he started his business. If you believe, you can achieve! There are no impassable hurdles.

Success is not attainable only by extraordinary people. Success is simply something accomplished by ordinary people who make an extra effort. There are two common denominators possessed by nearly all successful people. The first is that they always get up when they fall down, and secondly, they always keep on keeping on. They never quit or give up. Too often people choose a goal, work hard to reach it and then give up on the one-yard line, just inches from becoming winners.

Success is not something that happens quickly. More often than not, great successes are an accumulation of many small accomplishments. It is the person who approaches every day, day after day, with a list of tasks to accomplish, and ends every day having successfully accomplished every one of these small tasks, which in the end, becomes incredibly successful.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Saying that you want to be successful is too general a statement. You have to be more specific with regards to what it is you want to accomplish and very specific regarding how to accomplish it. If you don't know where you are going, how are you going to get there? And, if you don't have a very clear road map that offers direction while traveling toward your goal, you will, without doubt, lose your way. Know where it is you want to go, have a very definite plan on how to get there and follow your plan consistently. Consistency in performance is the difference between winning & losing.

What is success? Success is simply the ability to live life in one's own way. However, in today's society, it also includes a positive measure of financial security and independence. Earl Nightingale had a great definition of success. He said, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal." Think back on your life. Have you not been the happiest during those times when you established a goal, worked hard to accomplish it, and then took the time to ponder and enjoy what you had accomplished?

Here are 6 questions to ask that will help you plan for success.

1) Who am I?

2) Where am I?

3) Where am I going?

4) How will I get there?

5) What kind of a person will I be when I get there?

6) What must I do each day to make it happen?

Life is an incredible experience because we are all in control of our own destinies and we have the power to be anything we choose to be.
